Born and raised in Summerville, SC, Scharstein came to photography while grieving the death of their mother. Attracted to the act of capturing and collecting that which is about to be past, they are excited by the exquisite tenuousness of the present moment. Salter has studied at the Center for Photography, the College of Charleston, Trident Technical College, and Penland School of Crafts. They have exhibited work at the City Gallery at Waterfront Park , Outer Space, and the Salon des Refuses in the College of Charleston's Hill Gallery, as well as in Concurrent, Re:Nude and Blume exhibitions.
