NADIA STIEGLITZ BIOGRAPHY
Nadia Stieglitz is a French-born ceramicist based in Charleston, South Carolina, specializing in organic abstract sculpture.
Stieglitz’s journey as a ceramic sculptor began unexpectedly in June 2021, when she had the opportunity to showcase her work at a pop-up exhibit at the Dewberry Hotel, Charleston, SC. Although Stieglitz had only taken a few classes in 2019 at a local pottery studio, the response to her sculptures was overwhelmingly positive. This initial success served as a catalyst for her artistic ambitions, spurring her to seek out further art events and opportunities.
In 2022, her art work and dedication were recognized as she was selected as the Emerging Artist of Artisphere, a regarded art festival held in Greenville, SC. This honor provided a platform for her work to reach a wider audience and opened doors for further artistic growth. That same year, Stieglitz had the privilege of being chosen for Artfields, a respected art competition and festival in South Carolina, both in 2022 and 2023. In a significant milestone for her artistic development, that same year, Stieglitz was selected as one of eight artists in residence at the Gibbes Museum, Charleston, SC. This opportunity, which came over a year after exhibiting at the Dewberry Hotel, allowed her to immerse herself in a supportive and creative environment at Studio Union, fostering further experimentation and artistic exploration.
Publications such as Charleston Magazine, Luxe Magazine, Art Seen and Canvas Rebel have profiled her work, recognizing its unique blend of abstract form and organic aesthetic.Furthermore, she had the privilege of showcasing her work as a finalist in a Swiss pop-up gallery during Art Basel, Miami, in December of 2022.
Stieglitz’s artistic achievements also include being selected for the online exhibition & “Biosphere,” as well as participating in the “South Carolina Festival of Flowers Juried Art Show” at The Arts Center of Greenwood in Greenwood, SC. Additionally, she had the opportunity to present her work in “Show and Tell Art Show” in Charleston, SC.
In 2023, her art installation, “Oceanic Drifts: Sculptures from Ashore,” found a home at the Gibbes Museum in Charleston, SC for a two-month showcase. Following this, she embarked on a three-year summer residency at the Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Aspen, CO, where she honed her craft under the guidance of sculptors Del Harrow and Ebitenyefa Baralaye.
Looking ahead, her work will be featured in a group exhibition at the Museum of Arts and Sciences in Macon, GA, starting from February 16th to June 1st, 2024. This invitation marks another milestone in her artistic journey, providing a platform to share her creations alongside those of three other artists. The exhibition is an exciting opportunity for her to connect with a broader audience and contribute to the artistic dialogue. Each experience and milestone along her artistic journey has played a vital role in shaping her development as a clay sculptor. She is grateful for the opportunities she has had thus far, and she is excited to continue pushing the boundaries of her art and exploring new realms of creativity.
